Chia (Salvia hispanica) is a type of sage which belongs to the mint family (Lamiaceae), originally cultivated by the Aztecs and Mayans in Central America. These natives already knew about the special characteristics of this plant. They believed when they ate these seeds they were physically enduring as well as mentally superior to other cultures.
Chia seeds are vegan and gluten-free and they contain a high portion of essential Omega-3 fatty acids. The purple flowers produce black seeds and the white flowers produce white seeds.
