Public Private Partnership Naturkost Uebelhoer GmbH & Co. KG's basic thought about the product chia seed was already sown in 2001. It was thwarted by the lack of arable acreage.
Just in 2004 we had contact with the University of Tec de Monterey in Mexico, and thus, finally, the opportunity to get involved with the chia seed.
A long time of preparation and travelling to Mexico have created a good functioning network, which found a very good financial partner in the DEG, The German Investment and Development Company in Cologne.
The aim of the PPP project is the establishing of a regular income for the many small farmers in Acatic/Mexico, through the cultivation and harvesting of Sachia(trademark for chia seeds in the Cooperative). For many years the small farmers are fleeing into the big cities to earn money and feed their families.
Through the crop growing cooperative they stay in their environment and learn about controlled biological ways of cultivation and various other practical tasks, such as the purification of seeds and the marketing of Sachia. For this an investment was made by Naturkost Uebelhoer GmbH & Co. KG in a big purification plant, which they have put to the disposal of the Cooperative Chiablanca, free of charge.
