Welcome to Sachia, Chia (Salvia hispanica L.) is a plant belonging to the labiate family (Lamiaceae), which was originally cultivated by the Aztecs in Mexico. The Aztecs even knew then about the special effects of the plant. When eating these seeds they were not only physically enduring but also mentally superior to their enemies.
A 52 year old Tarahumara Indian won a 100 mile race in 1997, sponsored by Nike in California. The chia seed is part of the staple diet of the Tarahumara Indians.
Naturkost Uebelhoer GmbH & Co. KG initiated the cultivation of the chia seeds in Mexico in a PPP-Project supported by the DEG. The chia seeds, which are grown in Acatic in the State of Jalisco, are called Sachia.
